S. Korea and Japan resume talks on Tokyo’s export curbs

3개월만에 日수출규제 재논의…코로나19 악재 딛고 결실 볼까

It took them three months to meet again, but South Korea and Japan have resumed discussions on Tokyo’s export restrictions.
According to the Trade Ministry on Tuesday, Lee Ho-hyeon, director-general of trade policy, and his Japanese counterpart Yoichi Ida began their meeting a couple of hours ago.
They are holding a video conference due to concerns over the coronavirus.
Seoul wants Tokyo to lift its trade curbs, but with Japan’s recent restrictions on travelers from South Korea, the two countries’ relations remain as icy as ever.
In July of last year, Tokyo imposed restrictions on three key high tech exports to South Korea, in response to Seoul’s court rulings ordering Japanese firms to compensate victims of forced labor during Japan’s colonial rule.
